NILS COWAN (Writer/Producer) is an Emmy Award-winning producer, writer and editor with nearly twenty years’ experience developing, writing and editing emotionally impactful visual stories, from feature-length documentaries and network series to non-fiction short films and educational media campaigns. Born and raised in Calgary, Canada, and trained in the trenches of the documentary industry of DC, Nils moved to the Pacific Northwest ten years ago to join the growing creative scene and engage with the unique artists and stories of this region. With demonstrated experience at every stage of the production process and a hands-on knowledge of established and emerging production tools and techniques, he is able to transform ideas into a strong vision that follows through to the screen.  He has produced and written and edited more than fifty long and short-form projects for clients such as The National Park Service, National Geographic, The Smithsonian Institution, Red Bull Media and BET.

Relevance: Nils’ seasoned career, and longtime work with Indigenous peoples and queer people gels wonderfully with his passion and compassion for the braiding of stories occurring in this film.
